Here's a breakdown on the rides!

May 15: ABCx ride w 2 rookies who not only hung w me on hill repeats but kicked my booty!
May 16: biked home from work, stopped at the Pflugger bridge to attend the Ride of Silence.
May 17: biked to work, got passed by a guy in a 787 racing kit, but the best part was we met up at the same place about 2 miles later! Oh the shock on his face! He took the hillier route, I gotta green light! still made my day.
May 18: beer run to the corner store
May 19: Real Ale Ride, Kelli & I made the most of our 13 mile ride which we turned into 20, great beer at the end, too!
May 20: errand to the grocery store.
May 21: errand to the library followed by 10 mins of exercise.

One more week left. It's been really fun figuing out how to do this. Best part is I've realized how easy it is to run errands on the bike (I just have to remember to strap the TP on correctly and take the yogurt to the refrigerator.)

Bike Everyday in May: week 1

Since May is National Bike Month & also Stroke Awareness Month, I figured I'd fight off having another stroke & challenge myself to bike everyday, even if it is just to the Corner Store to get a beer!

I've made it 1 week, 7 days in  row.

May 1: This was an easy one--Austin Bike Chix ride.
May 2: Commuted to work, received a ride home after a work function. Came across a fellow cyclist who had fallen, I gave her a bandaid & escourted her to Town Lake.
May 3: Drove to work & commuted home, rode by the sight of a recent  car/bike accident to pay my respects to Verter. I forgot my light thus I wasn't able to attend the bike rally. Grabbed a geocache on the way home.
May 4. Commuted to work, drove home.
May 5: Rode to Mi Victoria to pick up breakfast tacos & donuts, shortest ride of the week. (1.89 miles, 10 mins 21 seconds
May 6: Rode to HEB to buy lemons & avocados.
May 7: Intervals in the hood before the rain.

Billy Rides!

I've been pretty busy at work...finally got in 2 full trips of commuting to work in April, I'm up to 10 ful trips, 20 one way trips. April 21, went to San Marcos to ride a quick 20 mile ride before my cousin Billy's first special olympics bike ride. It was a great ride w Kellie, we turned into the subdivision at 18 miles, so we wound our way around some streets to hit 20! Billy has excelled in Special Olympics in track in the Pentathalon. He went to Nationals and the world championships. He grew tired of track, so he decided to ride bikes this year. They found training difficult because of not being able to find a 3 mile track that didn't include stop signs or hills. That didn't seem to discourage him too much. He placed 2nd in the time trial & first in the road race. I was only able to watch the time trial.
Way to go Billy!

EHCT-2012

Last year I had plans to ride in the Easter Hill Country Tour , not sure what happened, but I did not go. Luckily this year KPT & V were all 'In'!

Left from work on Thursday with a beer in the hand to make the journey to Kerrville. Once there we found Schreiner University to grab our packets.

What's interesting about EHCT, is there isn't a mass start, you start when you want to. The routes are clearly marked, The rest stops are only opened a certain number of hours, so you have to plan accordingly. Each day there are several routes to choose from.

For Friday we decided to do the 39.8 mile route, that way we would save some energy for Saturday and do 61 miles.

Little did we know the 1557 feet in climbing along with the 85 degrees would get to us. Looking back on the routes, we prob should have done the 55 on Friday (same amount of climbing, flatter coming back home).

Bummed, kinda, that I took a hike w my bike, but I could not breathe!

We relaxed, ate and drank a few beers, pretty much lazy the rest of the day.
But we did reach a consensus that 33 miles for the next day would be enough.

On Saturday, we finally hit the road by 11:30 (what 8 am start?)As we were leaving more were finishing, but we weren't last. There was one big climb that I would hike up. Gotta get stronger! But after that ride we were on a very cool country road, then it was all downhill coming back.

We realized before we went to bed at 9:55PM, that if we rode 28 miles we would hit 100 miles for the weekend, so instead of driving to Schreiner U we road and added on the extra 8 miles.

Great weekend! I can't wait to do it next year!

March by the numbers

March was a sad month for cycling Kim style.
I managed to not commute to work (it rained several Fridays when I had planned on riding, yes, I could have tested out my new rain jacket, but it would have been cold)

We did start up the Tuesday night ABCx rides!st ride was great to see most everyone again, it will be a good season.
